Breastfeeding

We’ve heard it, research supports it, and many women are convinced that breastfeeding is best. So why the need for lactation consultants, classes, books, and support groups? Women once relied on the wisdom and experience of their own mothers, grandmothers, aunts, and sisters to help them establish a successful breastfeeding relationship with their new baby. Women today are often geographically separated from extended family, or find that supportive family members lack the correct information or personal experience a new mother finds most helpful.

In this session, we’ll discuss:

  • getting off to a great start.
  • surviving nighttime feedings.
  • finding nursing clothes that work for you.
  • pumping and storing milk.
  • key points for talking with your employer.
  • local community resources.

Baby Wearing

What is a sling? How do I know which style is right for me? Why is a sling better than a front carrier? Versatile, practical, and essential, a sling is a cloth carrier that enables you to keep your baby or young child content while you perform daily activities. Slings are designed with both your needs and your baby’s needs in mind. Baby enjoys snuggling close, seeing a familiar face, and feeling soothed by the rhythm of movement and your heartbeat. You will enjoy carrying your baby without neck, back, or arm strain and the freedom of having both hands free.

In this session, you’ll learn:

  • How to compare different styles and designs of slings to find the one that fits you best.
  • How to wear a sling and master different positions for carrying your baby.
  • How a sling may actually increase your baby’s intelligence!

Opportunities to try on slings are included in this session.
